Traveling through the area and found this 1948 Robert Trent Jones Sr. that is run by the Columbus Recreation & Parks. I have to believe, that this is the Crown Jewel of their six (6) city public courses. Even though it's the middle of November, 37 degrees with 15-20mph winds, this course was in mid season form for playing conditions. The fairways had the leaves blown away and the full grass cut just a little longer, but it is November. Tee boxes had the markers removed but you could see how they had four (4) tees set up from 6,536yd / 70.8 / 125 down to 5,046yds / 68.4 / 117 on this Par 35/35 rolling tree-lined course. I only had time for nine (9) holes so I paid my $28 9/cart and headed out on the Front 9 Blue at 3,165yds Par 35. Starting out on #1 a 392yd dogleg Par 4 was nice with 200-230yd drive to the corner to the narrow elevated green with trap on corner and RH side of the green. The #2 is a 150yd Par 3 that has the narrowest elevated green (6-8yds wide) with traps on either side. The #3 mirror's #1 hole at 400yds with another narrow elevated green, having traps on both sides. The #4 is a straightaway narrow treelined Par 4 at 365yds having a very narrow elevated green bordered by four (4) sand traps. What I have noticed so far is that the course gives you a very playable tee shot view but then tightens up on that approach shot view. The #6 is a dogleg right tee shot on this 410yd Par 4 playing to its Hcp 1 if you stray from the fairway. This trap free green has a small steep front to keep any short shots from bouncing on. The #7 Par 5 at 530yds has a generous fairway but another very narrow elevated green bordered by long sand traps. The #8 is a dogleg right 358yd Par 4 that has three (3) sand traps protecting front and both sides of the elevated green. The #9 a 410yd Par 4 into the wind is one tough with front traps protecting this elevated green. Very surprised by the great conditions this late in the season and look forward to returning a playing the Back 9 (3,371yd Par 35) that is much narrower than the Front 9. Ended up shooting 41 w/14 putts on this cool and windy day.

We started playing our league here. Our league consists of a bunch of hacks with a few exceptions. The course is tough with trees but there are holes that are short for the average golfer to enjoy. Overall, it's a pretty good course

The pace of play was slow. The rough was very long, and the greens were slow.

Slightly over priced for weekend play but reasonable. Its a very challenging layout. Plays longer than the yardage. If you drive 240 yds or longer, you will need to work the ball or hit over trees. Greens have subtle contours thus speed control is very important or else you may 3 putt bunch of holes. If you're a decent golfer, you'll enjoy the layout. If you show up thinking this is same as other Columbus Muni, you'll get a rude awakening. I enjoy golfing here although conditions could be little better. P.S. I'm fairly spoiled when it comes to golf course conditioning since I used to play lot of private courses and top 100 public courses in the nation so take it with a grain of salt on my condition guide.

This is a very challenging layour by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and one of his better ones in my opinion. The greens a very challenging and a two putt is not guaranteed even though the greens are smaller than average. It is a former Country club that the City purchased and is by far the best value for the area if you like a chalenge in your play. Mulktiple tee boxes and driving range as well as putting and chipping greens to prepare for the challenge of the course. I would not recommend iot to novice golfers or those that spray the ball as the mature tree lined layout can cause many lost balls and penalty strokes for those that play by the USGA rules of golf. But for better golfers it provides a nice achallenge and if you keep the ball in the fairway, good sdcores are possible. It rates a slope of 129 from the white tees which only play at about 6300 yards so the greens are challenging and up and downs take quailty shots.
